Prof Roger L Kneebone
PROF ROGER L KNEEBONE PHD FRCS FRCSED FRCGP
CONSULTANT AUTHOR AND AUTHOR OF ORIGINAL SUTURE TUTOR
Professor Kneebone is Professor of Surgical Education at Imperial College London. Prior to joining Imperial in 2003, he pioneered an innovative national training programme for minor surgery within primary care, based around intensive workshops using simulated tissue models and a computer-based learning program. Much of his current research focuses on simulation.
Since 2005 Professor Kneebone has lead the UK’s only Masters in Education (MEd) in Surgical Education.
Mark Whyman
MB BS MS FRCS LLRM
Video consultant for suturing and knot tying. Mr Whyman is Consultant General and Vascular Surgeon at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The majority of his specialist practice is in vein, hernia and laser surgery. Mark helped us with the filming of many of the videos in this course and gave us many hours of his time for which we are very grateful.
David ApSimon MSc
ORIGINAL SUTURE TUTOR CO-AUTHOR
David ApSimon’s background is in cognitive science and educational design. He has spent many years developing multimedia computer solutions for medical training. He combines expertise in leading-edge program design with a wider educational perspective, focusing on specific learning needs within the medical profession.
Judy Mewburn
Since 1994 Judy has been running or facilitating minor surgery training courses for practice nurses and general practitioners. She is a nursing representative on the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland Overseas Development Committee.
In 2003, Judy began working with the Tropical Health & Education Trust in Ghana.For the past seven years, she has taught basic suturing and cannulation to nurses at the School of Tropical Medicine. In Uganda, Judy trains theatre nurses and also teaches infection control and patient care to hospital nurses.
Mary Tobin
Mary Tobin is Theatre Nurse at St Michael's Hospital Bristol, part of the University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust. We used Mary's expertise to film the module on scrubbing, gowning and gloving.
