The Clinical Female Pelvic Trainer (CFPT) has been part of the Limbs & Things product range for over 20 years. The Mk3 is the latest, most realistic trainer, and is a market leading product for female examination simulators.
It’s anatomically accurate and tactile representation of the female pelvis is the ideal platform for hands-on examination, and diagnosis of conditions and minor pathologies. It’s suitable for use in many levels of training, from family health and primary care, to undergraduate and beyond.
When using the standard setup in simulations, trainees are able to practice basic examination skills such as:
- Identification of perineal and pelvic anatomy, including bony landmarks
- Digital vaginal examination
- Bi-manual examination, palpation of the abdomen while performing a digital vaginal examination
- Cervical smear testing using a speculum
- Digital rectal examination
- Identification of cervical pathologies and pregnant cervix
Overview
- Partial thighs on the module aid in anatomical orientation and replicate real life patient positioning
- Soft and strong perineum and labia
- Anatomically correct female pelvis with bony landmarks
- The Advanced CFPT Trainer includes 7 uterine modules with various pathologies
Realism
- Abdominal wall with fat layer makes palpation realistic
- Labia can be parted realistically
- Each uterus is presented at the correct anatomical angle
- Allows for the practice of cervical smear testing with a speculum
Versatility
- Uterine Pelvic modules are quick and easy to change
- Abdominal Wall Insert fits over the base unit and uterine module, and is easily lifted for access to the modules
Cleaning
- Remove excess lubricant with a soft cloth
- Clean products with a soft cloth, warm water, and mild detergent after use
- Air dry the trainer and modules fully before storing
Safety
- This product is latex free
- Only use water-based lubricant with the CFPT and its modules
- Remove jewellery and wear gloves at all times, sharp items (including fingernails) can lead to silicone damage

Evidence
"Realism and construct validity of novel pelvic models of common gynecologic conditions"
Edwards, S, Cass, G, Lenguerrand, E, Fox, R & Crofts, J. 2014 International Journal of Gynaecology and Obstetrics: the official organ of the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, vol 124, pp. 270-3
Objective:Â To test a novel set of pelvic trainers for realism and construct validity.
Conclusion:Â The models were found to be realistic and have construct validity. Senior participants were consistent at correctly identifying most abnormalities. The models may be useful for pelvic examination training; further testing is required regarding their ability to aid learning of clinical and communication skills.

Can this simulator be used to practice cervical smear testing?
Yes, during female pelvic exam procedures, you can use a speculum to practice cervical smear taking. Remember to apply water-based lubricant on the speculum before inserting it into the cervical unit.
What conditions can be identified on the female pelvic trainer?
The Clinical Female Limbs and Things Pelvic Trainer comes, as standard, with a Normal/Nulliparous Cervix for general examination techniques.
This Advanced version comes with an additional 6 Cervixes that feature representations of: Cervical Ectropion (cervical erosion and ectopy), Cervical Polyp (benign tumour), Ovarian Cyst, Retroverted Multiparous Cervix (tilted uterus), pregnancy at 10-12 weeks, and pregnancy at 14-16 weeks.
I want to offer a full training course, does Limbs & Things offer a male pelvic version of this trainer?
Yes, we offer both female and male pelvic exam trainers. As with the female pelvis model, the male CFPT comes in Standard and Advanced, with the modules offering normal and abnormal pathologies.
