Troubleshooting
I cannot insert the catheter into the tube feeding trainer
Check that you're using the recommended size of catheter: 14Fr for NG and OG, 20Fr for PEG. If you're using the recommended size or smaller, it could indicate that the catheter isn't sufficiently lubricated for intubation.
I cannot hear the bubble sound in the stomach
There are a few reasons that this might be happening:
- Check that the stomach is filled with 300cc of water
- The balloon catheter might not be fixed at the PEG hole
- The esophagus is not fixed at the correct angle, confirm attachment in the User Manual
I cannot aspirate fluid from the stomach
The level of water in the stomach may be too low, check them level and fill to 300cc, and confirm that the bumper is fully submerged.
I have aspirated stomach fluid, but it is coming out cloudy
There may be no water in the stomach. Drain the stomach contents after each injection of nutrient solution, then fill with 300cc of water.
The stomach fluid will not run clean
This is usually a sign that the nutrient solution was not removed after the trainer's last use. When the systems isn't cleaned it can build up bacteria that can disrupt ongoing training. Dismantle the system as per the user manual and thoroughly clean all components. If this does not resolve the issue, replace the stomach and/or drainage hose.
