TruTourniquet – Massive Hemorrhage Control Simulator from TruCorp

TruCorp’s TruTourniquet offers a realistic training model for massive hemorrhage control, suitable for any healthcare discipline that requires trauma training, including Undergraduate medicine and nursing, Graduate medical and nursing education, EMT, Paramedic, Military, Physician Assistant/Associates, and ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) training.

According to a study in The New England Journal of Medicine (Hemorrhagic Shock by Jeremy W. Cannon, 2018), an estimated 1.9 million deaths per year worldwide are due to hemorrhage, with physical trauma accounting for around 1.5 million, nearly 79%, of that number.

Representative of an above knee amputation on an adult, TruTourniquet can be used to teach realistic hemorrhage control in the field, as well as controlled education scenarios.

Cleaning

Thoroughly clean the model with warm, soapy water or mild detergent, until foreign matter and residue is removed
Flush the blood system with warm water
As a further step to fully sanitize the product, use an alcohol spray (75%+) and wipe off
Allow trainer to fully dry before storing

Safety

Do not clean this product with germicides, disinfectants, chemical agents (such as glutaraldehyde/Cidex®), ethylene oxide, phenol-based or iodine containing cleaners
Do not scrub or use abrasive material to clean the tourniquet trainers, this may cause damage to the paint on the model
Avoid lifting the model by the stump and putting undue pressure on the hinge

What types of tourniquets can be use during simulation training?

You can use any type of tourniquet during training; however, we recommend the Combat Application Tourniquet. The CAT is popular in Military training and was one of the first to be released in commercial markets.

Why does the TruTourniquet trainer only come with one bottle of simulated blood for training?

The product contains one bottle of Concentrated blood (250ml), this whole bottle can be mixed with around 2 liters of water, or to your own desired dilution. Please follow the instructions on the side of the bottle to ensure correct use of the blood and blood system.

What is Stop the Bleed, and why are more people adopting it into their courses?

Stop the Bleed (STB) is a national US awareness campaign that encourages individuals to learn how to recognize life threatening bleeding, and how to effectively stabilize wounds until emergency response arrives.

Although the course it designed for general public training, the course reinforces existing knowledge and skills in medical students. Following a research study in 2020 (Hemorrhage-Control Training in Medical Education, Jared T Gowen, et al), it was concluded that STB was a positive addition to Undergraduate Medical education.

Stop the Bleed training aims to teach the necessary skills to stop traumatic blood loss, and thus, reducing the number of preventable deaths each year. Hemorrhaging from a traumatic wound accounts for approximately 1.5 million death per year, worldwide.
