Ear Examination Simulator II
Kyoto Kagaku’s Ear Examination Simulator II is a life size model of an adult head and shoulders. The ear anatomy includes the external acoustic meatus and tympanic membrane for training in examinations with an otoscope and foreign body removal.
The built in electronics of this ear model allow for 2 modes of use:
- Self learning mode – provides an audible alarm when the tip of the instrument is harmfully inserted
- Instructor mode – provides a visual alert with no audio, for training exercises, particularly useful for OSCE or skills examination
To aid in patient focused care, the alarm system warns against painful insertion:
- When the tip of the instrument passes the bony part of the ear canal – yellow warning light and intermittent beeping
- When the tip of the instrument reaches the eardrum – red warning light and continuous beeping

Realism
- Supplied with a foreign body removal kit containing: simulated ear wax, small toys, small sponge fragments and a spoon

- Manikin neck can be tilted
- Training in both left and right ears
Cleaning
- Remove simulated wax and other foreign objects from ears
- Remove batteries from the model
- Wipe manikin with soft damp cloth
- Allow ear model to fully dry before dusting with talcum powder and storing
Safety
- Note: Size 4 speculum recommended for examinations
- Do not insert otoscope too deep, this may cause damage to the ear
- Do not exert dial, this may cause mechanical trouble
- Ear exam trainer contains batteries, handle and dispose of with care
- Ensure correct ear usage for type of exam, “Exam Ear” for otoscope assessment, “FB Ears” for foreign body removal
