Limbs & Things Embraces New Graduate Scheme

Four new graduates are joining Bristol-based medical simulator manufacturer Limbs & Things, in the first cohort of its new graduate recruitment scheme, created to support the future of the fast-growing business.

The new graduates are Chay Clifton from Nottinghamshire, who graduated in BSc Human Biology; Cat Rogers from Swindon, who graduated in Product Design and Manufacture Meng; William Bartholomew from Bristol who graduated in Industrial Design and Technology; and Richmond Asante from Italy who graduated in Politics and International Relations and has a Masters in marketing.

A second cohort of another four graduates will be recruited in Autumn 2023. The graduates will work on a range of projects within the organisation to gain knowledge of the business and industry, with an emphasis on either a commercial or technical career path.

Based in St Philips, East Bristol, the multi-million pound 200-strong business is now one of the leaders in its field and exports its products to more than 40 countries worldwide. The company’s expertise is called on to meet new challenges and an ever-expanding medical training market. Products address medical scenarios ranging from routine examinations to emergency interventions.

One of the new recruits, Richmond Asante, who graduated in MSc Marketing at UWE Bristol said: “This is a great opportunity for me to further my interest in marketing and international sales and build on the work experience I did as a student. Limbs & Things is such a fascinating company to work for because it is really transforming lives and I know I will be playing a small part in that mission. It will also broaden my horizons by giving me the opportunity to work with colleagues around the world.”

Whilst this is the company’s first graduate recruitment scheme, Limbs & Things has been committed to investing in young people for many years.

Lizzie Schlick joined internal sales at Limbs & Things as a recent graduate three years ago, and after two years was promoted to corporate sales. She is now a global corporate account manager and works with a yearly budget of over £1 million.

“After finishing my biology degree, I wasn’t interested in lab work, so I was looking for a job that involved working with people and customers. Limbs was the perfect opportunity for me.

“Sales is exciting and varied, and I love working with such unique products. My days range from being in the office working on new opportunities to appearing at exhibitions. I also get to travel – this year I went to America for two weeks to visit our US customers. The freedom of my role means I am involved in key decisions about the business and the direction it’s taking.”

Thomas Wakefield joined internal sales as a graduate five years ago and after two years moved to product management. He is now one of Limbs & Things’ most senior product managers on the team.

“As a career-driven person who is motivated to develop themselves and make a difference in the world, for me Limbs & Things was a fantastic fit. They offered both the opportunities and the support for progression in an industry that plays a huge role in improving patient outcomes in healthcare. From the beginning I was given invaluable opportunities to speak with customers every day and gain insight into the real-life use of the models Limbs & Things were manufacturing.

Limbs & Things has been designing and manufacturing medical task trainers and simulators since 1990, enabling highly realistic learning experiences for a range of healthcare professionals.

Its products include breast examination trainers, male examination trainers, arms with mock blood systems for canulation training, and midwifery training products such as caesarean section modules and birthing simulators. All its products are designed and manufactured in Bristol.
