SENIOR PRODUCTION ENGINEER

Limbs & things are continually looking to improve our production processes, incorporating the latest technologies to ensure we are producing parts of the highest quality. The Senior Production Engineer (Electromechanical) is a pivotal role in allowing us to do this. They head up the team that defines the processes and procedures for how our products are manufactured. They are also responsible for looking after plant and equipment (excluding mould tools) ensuring it is maintained and running smoothly. The primary purpose of the role is to provide first-line support and diagnosis for operational issues and aid the growth of the manufacturing and production section of the company. The successful candidate will contribute to achieving on-time delivery of customer orders and helping grow the capacity and performance of production activities.

Day to day the Senior Production Engineer (Electromechanical) will be supporting production to provide technical expertise, diagnosing, and solving problems. They will work with production, production engineering, and quality to keep the production cells are running efficiently. They will be looking for opportunities to improve and standardise existing processes to improve quality and efficiency whilst reducing costs.

Our Maintenance Technician reports into the senior production engineer and collaborates with them to ensure plant and equipment downtime is kept to a minimum and preventative maintenance plans are in place and followed with costs remaining within budget.

The Production Engineer will also provide support for New Product Introduction leading on production design and setup, and the identification of any new production/test equipment required to support a right-first-time philosophy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a team responsible for supporting the production department in producing high quality products.
  • Provide technical expertise to diagnose and resolve operational issues.
  • Drive process improvements, standardise practices, and support new product introductions.
  • Plan, commission, and implement new or upgraded equipment, minimising downtime.
  • Coordinate the design and building of assembly and process fixturing of production equipment.
  • Plan and implement shop floor changes /layout improvements.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams to optimise capacity and performance.
  • Promote problem-solving techniques and facilitate root cause analysis for production challenges.

REQUIREMENTS

  • HNC or equivalent in Manufacturing/Production, or Lean Industrial experience.
  • Engineering experience in assembly, plastics, or low-volume batch production environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement techniques, and quality systems (ISO9001, 6 Sigma).
  • Experience with injection moulding or plastics production, including process evaluation, improvement and leading PFMEA’s
  • Competence in CAD (SolidWorks or similar) and practical workshop skills.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems, planned preventative maintenance, and project management.
  • Capable of producing working drawings to support fixture design and manufacture.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and team leadership skills; able to work independently and influence other.
